The Avengers(TMCR)! The golden geese of the MCU! The absolute oroborusian nightmare of popcorn mediocrity that i love with all my heart. This page is toootally not something i made for html day in an hour so you should expect to see god within its code. absolutely. promise.
Also, i am 100% neurotypical so dont expect much depth.... totally.
So, if you could imagine, the MCU did not start as blockbuster slop that came out twice a year to the joyous shrieks of 12 year olds. I say this with love. there was actually lot of hesitance and guess work involved with the begining of the franchise. do NOT ask me for references.
Prior to the "official" start of the MCU, Marvel hhad put out previous superhero films and they all kinda flopped. and sucked. So the idea of making a big ol franchise of them was kind of... not amazing. So, if you notice, even with the set up of other movies in the first few "official" MCU movies, there wasn't a lot of sequal bait or hooks. it had to be a good movie on its own because they didn't know if anything else was garenteed. my kingdom for this thinking back.
Well, the characters, rather, but you know what I mean. The Avengers as a group and property aren't exactly spring chickens, so theres a lot of time and writing and charcters to look over and through to see what gets includes in your soap opera movies and what doesn't. Luckily for all of us (if you're a nerd), the MCU pulled from EVERYWHERE. You've got references to runs from the 40's, 60's, 80's, 90's up to the 2010's. That is patently insane, thank you. Lucky for us, even with all of that time shananiganry, there are, generally, well excepted base members of the Avengers, so we didn't immedietly have to do the "well, who counts where? why didn't you use shark girl and lava boy from issue 69.5 of the spongebob tie in from '99?"
Captain America, Ironman, Black Widow, Hawkeye, Hulk, and Thor. That's enough for ANY franchise.
Okay this part isnt very academic (like the rest of it was...) but if you've been invested in the MCU since 2010-2015, you KNOW the modern feelings and fandom around the MCU are SO different then they used to me. Back when the first Avengers movie was big man on campus? Loki was the villain of the week, every week. The avengers fought Doom, Amara and Loki in every fic. Thor loved poptarts and clint lived in the vents. it was a time to be alive. Even the angst was a sight to behold. You didn't have a big purple murder button to give all of your characters Super Trauma at the same time so you actually had to think about the effects of the nonsense that happened to them. you had to COME UP WITH STUFF!! IT ROCKED!!
